Hone and Redefine Leadership Rules-Key to Power

Hone and Redefine Leadership Rules-Key to Power

Can there be any leader without followers? How many problems in contemporary situations are the result of leadership or to that matter real leadership? Looking at today’s world realize how shady people can be and how smart and ambitious you must be to succeed in life. You have to stand out in this world and build a good reputation to use it to your advantage. Keep learning about people and getting motivated to succeed.

In today’s world, our thinking is based on the principle that leaders are not born, they are developed or made by inculcating some skills and values in them and their skills are honed and redefined by regular practice. Life is all about experimentation and developing skills to fit in and by making a difference. Keep learning constantly by knowing your weak areas and keep revealing you to yourself.

Personally, I have made a code for myself to follow both in personal and professional life and mind you, everyone needs to have a code they can live by. My favorite codes are:

A) Nothing is guaranteed in life and

B) You may be wrong sometimes.

I have my own rules to develop excellence in leadership. These rules are based on my experience over the years by seeing mistakes and failures of the other leaders due to lack of awareness, poor choices and sometimes they don’t have a habit to listen, analyze and comprehend the situation beforehand. The problem also maybe because of a lack of broader insights to connect with the team members or to fail in creating a productive and meaningful work environment. Most of the time these could be prevented. Live by the following rules and become a successful and influential leader and grow big in life and profession.

Being the leader in any organization means that you have been given a role to serve your customers, investors, your team, and, stakeholders. Leading others is not the right you’ve been given, but take it as a privilege granted to you and has to be earned. And also, do not take it as if you deserve to be a leader. I have seen so many leaders who forget to use the word “WE” when there is a success, instinctively they will use “ME”

One of the major and basic quality of real leaders is that most of the times they forget about themselves and their personal interests and them instinctively react in favor and interest of the team and organization. As a leader, you’ve been given a privileged position to lead, direct and shape the organization and focus on the development of the team members, so your responsibility as a a leader is to take care of:

A)   Your team member’s time and efforts,

B)   Hopes, ambitions, and dreams,

C)   Team member’s thoughts, insight, and sense of self-worth.

People with genuine leadership skills show a strong personality and interpersonal skills to lead others by motivating them to reach the goals by showing them the right direction. And to be an effective leader you have to constantly hone and redefine leadership rules.

So, why leadership is an important skill? Leadership skills are important because it is difficult to manage large groups, set unified objectives to make progress in a particular direction and more so because human nature requires that somebody should be there to take charge of the situation and help others to show the right way.

So, what should a leader do? Or Should not do.

An exceptional leader must build a vision, set clear objectives and goals, help, and direct the team to the right path. There are some negatives, a leader must avoid at all costs: fail to set clear objectives and is indecisive, lacking empathy, degrading team members and he must not be quick to praise or insult team members.

Achieve the rank of not of a privileged leader but of a genuine leader by following the rules and live by them which will not only make you a great leader but a successful and influential leader too both in your life and profession.

Hone and redefine leadership rules for excellence:

1.    Effective leaders not only take responsibility for the tasks required to complete a project also take ownership and accountability over the results. So, take responsibility and never put blames on others for the unsuccessful completion of tasks.

2.    Will the future alter negatively? If the answer to your question is “No”, Then let go of the control.

3.    Be a good listener. Do not be judgemental. This way you’ll be able to understand the person very well.

4.    Be an assertive communicator. Assertive communicator is very well aware of the fact that communication is an art and he makes sure to use it effectively to deliver his message or put his point across without hurting the person and the situation. As an effective communicator, he utilizes all the tools and skills available with him to get the advantage of the situation.

5.    Never say that time is limited or not enough time. Everyone has the same 24 hours a day at their disposal, it a matter of how do you utilize your time. Hone and redefine leadership rules.

6.    Be careful with your words and mind your words. Always try to choose your words wisely. The power lies with the words you use, and powerful words can move nations and mountains. Be honest in your approach.

7.    Understand and Know yourself. Self-understanding of your inner and outer world, dark and brighter side, your weakness and strength are very much necessary for effective leaders.

8.    Developing workplace environment: An effective leader is the one who nurtures, sustains, train, take care of the team or the people working with him by providing guidance, support for their development and growth.

9.    A leader must spend his energy judiciously: A leader must spend his creative energies on the matters which can be changed and bring positive results. He should not waste energy and resources on the matters, he has no control over and cannot change them.

      10.  Statements Using “I”: Instead of saying, “You’re wrong,” Say “I disagree” or “I would like you to help me with this” rather than,” you need to do this”. Make sure your requests are simple, to the point and specific. Hone and redefine leadership rules.

      11.  Be honest and truthful: Influential and effective leaders always adopt and embrace truth and honesty and will accept criticism to envision differently and positively and will not allow their authority in between them and the truth particularly at the times of appraisal.

     12. Encourage talent: Effective leaders try to cultivate a culture where people compete with each other in a healthy and constructive manner. They create an atmosphere in the organization to release ingenuity and creativity of the employees and make them skillful and talented to achieve the objectives set by the leader.

   13. Set high standards: Influential leaders always lead their personal and professional life by setting high standards of personal code of conduct. They are empathetic and do not develop bad feelings towards those people who offend them. They are always there to help those who need assistance. They give the team the necessary tools and freedom to perform extraordinarily and earn respect, trust, and admiration form employees in return. As a leader, you can not invest better than that.

    14. Leaders Evaluate Critically: Effective leaders never rely on old assumptions and theories and do not accept everything on face value. They analyze the information with a critical and open mindset and never rush to deliver the verdict or judgment without knowing all the facts verified.

    15. Personal Integrity: Great leaders always follow and stick to a personal and professional code of conduct. For them, personal integrity is very important and they will never try to justify dishonesty and wrongdoings.

    16. Character is far the biggest component. It is not possible to teach selflessness, courage, will power, initiative, or other virtues merely by talking and discussing. It is an art, which can be acquired only by self- efforts. In Dr. Sivananda’s words: You sow an action - reap a tendency, sow a tendency - reap a habit, sow a habit - reap a character, sow your character - reap your destiny. Therefore, destiny is your own creation. If you change your habits you can become master of your own destiny. The major component of leadership – TO BE - which is a source of effectiveness, cannot be taught.

    17.  Avoid excuses: Top and respectable leaders do not make excuses. They will say everything straight. If you have promised to do something then do it wholeheartedly and do it with all your efforts to succeed.

    18.  Believe in yourself and as a person, you do matter. Build your own personal brand and succeed in life and profession.

As an effective and influential leader- Hone and redefine leadership rules:

RESPECT-EARN IT.

HUMILITY-GET USED TO IT.

SERVICE-PROVIDE IT.

GRATITUDE-REALIZE IT.

HUMOR-FIND IT.

It really humbles me when you make time on a busy day to not only read my blog but also leave a comment. You are a Star. Thank You.

Key takeaways for FMCG Sector- UAE/QATAR/GCC/ME | Require A Robust Business Strategy-Covid/Post Covid-19/Current Challenge

FMCG businesses who have already been investing in newer technologies are prepared better in the unfortunate scenario that happened due to COVID-19. As per my opinion just like 2020, the year 2021 will remain tough and a year of uncertainty till the third quarter of 2021. Effective administration and efficiency of vaccination to be seen. And most important is the advancement in the treatment of patients and new developments in the medical field. No clear future can be predicted due to the ever-changing nature of the Covid-19 crisis. Businesses, Managers and executives will face tough choices. Businesses must be very careful yet bold, Agile but cautious and must combine data with creativity to take and drive decisions to steer the business forward. Only a corporate vision that combines and leverage all these qualities will be able to sustain itself and steer the business forward and face the challenges in front of them.   We must make sure that everything we do has a “Consumer...

The unemployment rate in India has probably peaked with medium and large companies are looking forward to starting recruiting and hiring after the lockdown has been lifted and unlock 1.0 has started with some restrictions in place. PM Modi has made it clear to the state Chief Ministers that there will not be any lockdown further. The unlock phase has already begun and there is no going back and there will not be any fresh lockdown anywhere in the country. From 1st July 2020, we’ve to start thinking about the next phase of unlocking period- unlock 2.0. For unlock 2.0, it has been discussed and decided the following: 1.     The economic activities that have been already resumed, we’ve to give more momentum to them. 2.     Increase business by bringing in investments and to generate employment opportunities. 3.     Fight against Covid-19 must continue seriously. Since it has become a new norm, we have to be careful always and lear...
